Chamezio or Hamezi
This North Coast village is set into the hillside just off the main Sitia to Aghios Nikolaos road. However this village is now having a bypass built around it and this will free the village of its through traffic. The village is popular because of its close proximity to Sitia and the local airport with flights to and from Athens.
The village has tavernas, kafenions and shops. It is very picturesque as you walk up the lanes where the white painted steps are filled with tubs of flowers and pretty vines hang from the pergolas. The villagers can still be seen walking up these paths with their donkeys. Many houses in this village have stunning sea views and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The village has its own folklore museum.
Sitia Town with its ferry port, fishing harbour and blue flag beach is less than a ten
minute drive away and the cosmopolitan village community is lively and very welcoming. Houses that become available for sale are often sold quickly for both permanent accommodation and as holiday homes.
Hamezi is 10 km from Sitia, and 50 from Agios Nikoloas.
